I will speak, read from Frozen to Life and take questions at the ‘Dying to Know 4’ event at the Craigmonie Centre, Drumnadrochit (near Inverness) on Saturday 8th October. My talk, entitled ‘Cryonics: Medical Time Travel or Frozen Folly’ will delve into the dramatically opposing views of cryonics as either a radical extension of medicine or an ultimately pointless vanity.
A press release from the organiser of the event including mention of my story spurred a flurry of sensationalist headlines, including the preposterous ‘British Bloke Plans To Chop His Head Off And Cheat Death’ from The LADbible. Of course I don’t plan to ‘chop off my head’; cryonics is an absolute last resort (and how would that work, anyway?). And I’m not British, but Scots-European-Terran.
The event intends to help dispel myths around dying — a laudable aim indeed:
‘Dying to Know’ is an event aimed at breaking the silence around discussing death, dying and bereavement. It’s a family event with a difference that encourages people to think about the practicalities of the final phase of their life – and to ensure they make their wishes clear about what they would like to have happen after they die.
My talk begins at 2pm.
